In this Episode, we’re talking all about the do’s and don'ts when it comes to planning your wedding! We’re giving you our take from two wedding vendors that have been in the biz for 10+ years and have worked over 100 weddings collectively. We wanted to create an episode to help shed some light on things we really recommend when it comes to a wedding day, and some don’ts that we also feel strongly about! So if you’re engaged, planning your wedding, or just want to hang with us for a bit and hear from two wedding photographers, then this episode is perfect for you! Let’s dive on in!

Some do’s:

  • When choosing a photographer, consider their style (the way they shoot and the way they edit). Also consider the experience that they give and the experience they have, the way you guys click, if you’re comfortable with working with them based off their portfolio/ experience etc), and their personality (they will be with you the WHOLE wedding day! You want to get along!)

  • Communicate your expectations for your vendors and your budget

  • Create a mood board on Pinterest for each part of your wedding planning process: (engagement session, decor, florals, bridesmaid looks, overall aesthetic, etc)

  • If you want an engagement session, plan it far enough in advance to be able to use the photos for whatever you want to use them for. If you want to send your save the dates by August, take your photos by June so your photographer has enough time to edit the photos and deliver them back to you. You also want to have enough time to go through them all and pick your favorites and create the save the date/order them to send them out by August. There’s no real right or wrong for when you should take your engagement photos depending on your situation and timeline and photo needs. However, a good rule of thumb could be to get your engagement photos done at least 6 months out from your wedding day.

  • With engagement session planning, consider the vibe and season you want for your photos and plan accordingly.

  • Tip your vendors!

  • Have an unplugged ceremony

  • Add in your own flare, traditions & vision/ and worry less about trends/ tradition just for tradition sake

  • Print your photos after the wedding

  • Trust your vendors, trust the process, & have patience

Some Don’ts

  • Don’t hesitate to reach out to the vendors you know you want to work with or are interested in working with. Keep in mind some vendors book out 12-24 months out!

  • Don’t book a vendor without researching them and loving their work

  • Don’t book a “family friend” as a vendor just because they will give you a deal or do it for free/cheap (YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY)!

  • Don’t set unrealistic expectations on your photo/video vendors for the turnaround time. Read the contract and know before the wedding when you can expect to get things back by and don’t ask too much for things that weren’t promised to you in a certain timeframe.

  • Don't not give credit when posting photos or videos- tag your vendors!

  • Don’t stress about the timeline, photo locations etc, shot list, etc. - trust your vendors!

  • Don’t rush through any part of the day. Soak in every moment

  • Don’t get sunburnt before your wedding or try new hairstyles!

  • Don’t expect to go to cocktail hour if you aren’t doing a first look

  • Don’t let the speeches go over 3 min per speech

  • Don’t forget to feed your vendors and carve out time for them to eat too!

  • Don’t ask for the raw photos!

  • Don’t forget to have a backup plan for weather related issues

We hope that was helpful to all you brides out there! Even if you’re able to take away one thing that we shared, that’s all that matters!

we’re so glad you’re here!
